Validity & Reliability of "Sexual Behavior of Infertile Women" Questionnaire (SBIW): Developing and Psychometric

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study is to develop valid & reliable questionnaire to evaluate some aspects of sexual behavior of infertile women.Sexual behavior is an important aspect of marital life and its influences from attitudes, experiences, actions, feelings and thoughts.

Materials and Methods: The mixed sequential exploratory study was done. In the qualitative phase, a preliminary questionnaire emerged from in-depth interviews with 15 childless women and 8 specialist that were selected by purposeful sampling method. Qualitative and quantitative  SBIW was measured through internal consistency and test–retest.  

Results: In the qualitative phase, a preliminary questionnaire with 113 items emerged. Finally, the items of the questionnaire were reduced from 113 to 77. Sexual behavior of infertile women" questionnaire (SBIW) classified under five factors: A) the impact of infertility diagnosis, B) The effect of infertility treatment. C) the impact of common beliefs, D) sexual response cycle and related factors and E) the impact of their husbands, relatives, family, community and education on sexual behavior of infertile women. S-CVI (sum of content validity index)  and S-CVR (sum of content validity ratio) get 0.86 and 0.68, respectively. Cronbach'sa = .862 and the ICC (Intra class correlation) obtained.928 for SBIW.

Conclusion: It was identified that the SBIW, is a valid and reliable instrument that could be used to assess some aspect of sexual behavior of infertile women and may be useful tool during infertility consulting and investigations. SBIW  classified under five factors and each investigator could use each part that he wants.
